How many days have we been together? How to count it

Short answer

Pick the date your relationship started, then count the calendar days from that date to today. Today minus the start date gives the days that have passed; add 1 if you count the first day as day 1. A date calculator or a day counter app does the leap years and month lengths for you.

Step by step

You need:

  • The date you got together
  • A calendar, a calculator or your phone
  1. Agree on your start date. Decide together which day counts: your first date, the day you became a couple, or your wedding day. Many couples keep more than one.
  2. Choose day 0 or day 1. Decide whether the start date itself is day 0 or day 1. Counting the first day as day 1 is common in couple apps and in Korea, where 100-day celebrations are popular.
  3. Count the full years. Each full year adds 365 days, or 366 if it contains 29 February. For example, from 10 March 2023 to 10 March 2025 is 366 + 365 = 731 days, because 2024 was a leap year.
  4. Add the remaining months and days. From the last anniversary, add the days of each month until today. Remember that months have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days.
  5. Check with a date calculator. Type both dates into a days-between-dates calculator or a spreadsheet. In Google Sheets or Excel, =TODAY()-DATE(2023,3,10) gives the days that have passed.
  6. Mark the next milestone. Note the next round number, such as 500 or 1,000 days, and put it in your calendar so you do not miss it.

Day 0 or day 1: why two apps can show different numbers

If you got together on 1 June, then on 2 June one day has passed. Some people call 2 June day 1 (days passed), others call it day 2 (counting the first day as day 1). Both are fine; the difference is always exactly one.

Pick one rule and keep it. If you plan a 100-day or 1,000-day celebration, check which rule your partner's app or calendar uses so you celebrate on the same day.

A quick worked example

Say you got together on 14 February 2024 and today is 22 October 2026. From 14 February 2024 to 14 February 2026 is two years: 2024 includes 29 February, so that is 366 + 365 = 731 days. From 14 February 2026 to 22 October 2026 is 250 days. In total, 981 days have passed, or day 982 if you count the first day as day 1. Day 1,000 falls 18 or 19 days later, depending on your rule.

Which start date should you use?

There is no official rule. Some couples count from the first date, because that is when it really started. Others count from the day they agreed to be together, or from the wedding. If you cannot agree, keep both: one count for dating and one for marriage. Writing the date down somewhere you both can see, such as a shared calendar, saves an argument later.

Milestones couples like to celebrate

  • Every 100 days: 100, 200, 300 and so on. Day 100 falls a little over three months in.
  • Day 1,000: about two years and nine months in.
  • Repeating numbers such as 1,111 or 2,222 days.
  • Day 10,000: a little over 27 years together.
  • Monthly and yearly anniversaries on the same date as your start day.

How to show the number on your phone

Searching for the number every few weeks gets old. A day counter widget on your home screen shows the count every time you unlock your phone, and updates by itself at midnight. Most Android launchers let you add a widget by pressing and holding an empty part of the home screen and choosing Widgets.

Small ways to mark the day

  • Write a short note about one thing you love about the last 100 days.
  • Recreate your first date, same place or same meal.
  • Make a photo collage with one picture from each 100-day stretch.
  • Set a reminder the day before a milestone so you have time to plan.

Questions people ask

How do I calculate how many days we have been together?

Subtract your start date from today's date. A spreadsheet formula like =TODAY()-DATE(2024,2,14) or any days-between-dates calculator does it instantly, including leap years. Add 1 if you count the first day as day 1.

How many months is 100 days?

About three months and one week. The exact date depends on which months you pass through, so count it from your own start date.

When is our 1,000th day?

Add 999 days to your start date if you count the first day as day 1, or 1,000 days if you count days passed. That lands about two years and nine months after you got together.

Do leap years change the count?

Yes. Any period that includes 29 February has one extra day. Calculators and counter apps handle this for you, which is why they are more reliable than counting by hand.

Can I see our days together on my home screen?

Yes. Add a day counter widget from an app that offers one. It shows the current count and updates every day without opening the app.
