Questions

How it works
  1. Set the tempo. Use plus and minus, the slider, or tap the beat 4 times.
  2. Press play and practise. Keep the app open on your music stand; the screen stays on while it plays.
  3. Tap Finish. The session goes into your log with the song and the tempo.
Does it keep playing with the screen off?

No. The screen stays on while the metronome plays. If you leave the app, it stops, and a session of a minute or more is saved.

Does Tickstave listen with the microphone?

No. It has no microphone or camera permission. Sessions are timed from the metronome itself.

Why calibrate Bluetooth?

Bluetooth headphones play sound a little late. Tap along 8 times and Tickstave plays each click that much earlier for those headphones.

Is Tickstave free?

Yes. The metronome, tap tempo, accents, subdivisions, the tempo trainer, 3 song lists and 7 days of practice history are free. Older sessions stay on your phone. Pro adds polyrhythm, swing, 8 drum patterns, unlimited lists, full history with CSV, a streak widget and no ads.

Privacy at a glance
Your songs and practice log
Song lists, tempos, practice sessions and headphone timing are saved only in the app's private storage on your phone, with your settings. They are never uploaded, never sent to us and never passed to the ad SDK. If you use Android device backup, they may be included in that backup, which Google encrypts for your account.
Headphone timing
The measured delay is stored with the headphone model name Android reports, so the right delay is used next time. It never leaves your phone.
Practice reminder
Optional. Scheduled on your phone by Android at the time you choose. No reminder content leaves your phone.
CSV export and sharing
Created only when you ask, and shared only where you choose.
Purchases
Handled by Google Play; we never see your payment details.

Permissions: Notifications, asked when you turn on the practice reminder in Settings, and when you start a free trial for one reminder 2 days before it ends. Start at boot, so the reminder is set again after a restart. Vibration, for the optional buzz on beat 1. Wake lock, so a reminder can arrive while the phone sleeps. No microphone, camera, location, contacts, storage, Bluetooth, exact alarm or foreground service permission. Google's ad and purchase libraries add the advertising ID, network state and billing permissions. Internet is used for ads, purchases, crash reports and the settings file described above.
