What you can do

  • Your picture, right on your paper. The camera shows the picture over your page.

  • Turn any photo into a sketch. Pick a photo, switch to Sketch and set the line strength.

  • 49 templates to start with. Animals, flowers, people, places and things: 37 are free and 12 come with Pro.

  • Lock, flip, light and grid. Lock the picture in place, mirror it, turn on the flashlight or lay a grid over the page.

  • Record a time-lapse (Pro). Watch your drawing appear line by line, saved as a short video you can share.

  • Lightbox: trace without a camera (Pro). Put thin paper on the screen and trace.

Set up in 10 seconds
  1. Stand your phone on a glass. About 25 cm above the paper, camera facing down.
  2. Pinch to size the picture. The picture changes size; the camera stays put.
  3. Tap Lock, then draw. Follow the lines on screen with your pencil.
Is Traceful really free?

Yes. Tracing with the camera is free with no time limit. Pro adds extras and removes ads, but you never need it to trace.

Is Pro a subscription?

You choose. Pro is yearly (with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers and a reminder 2 days before it ends), monthly, or a one-time lifetime purchase through Google Play. You can cancel a subscription anytime in Google Play and restore Pro on a new phone with the same Google account. If you bought Pro before, it stays yours.

When do I see ads?

Never while you trace. Free users see small ads in My drawings, Settings and the full template list, a full-screen ad now and then after tapping Done, and, from the third launch on, sometimes one when the app opens. You can also choose to watch an ad to use a Pro template once, record one time-lapse or get 24 hours of Lightbox, or watch 2 videos to get all of Pro, with no ads, for 24 hours (once a day). Pro removes every ad.

How do I hold the phone?

Stand it on a glass or a stack of books about 25 cm above the paper, then pinch to size the picture and tap Lock.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Photos you pick and the camera image stay on your phone. There is no account and nothing is sent to us.

Opened with the Android photo picker, processed on your phone (including background removal by Google ML Kit, which runs on the device), and never uploaded.
Your drawings and time-lapse videos
Saved in the app's own storage on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them. You choose when to share them.

Permissions: Camera (to show your paper while you trace). Notifications and starting after reboot (only to remind you 2 days before a free trial ends). No storage, location, contacts or microphone permission is requested.
