What you can do

  • Videos, audio files and recordings. Clean an MP4, MOV or WebM video, an audio file, or a new recording.

  • Hear it before you save. A 10-second preview starts on the part with the most speech.

  • Keeps going when you switch apps. Files longer than a minute are cleaned with a progress notification, and Stillwren tells you when the file is ready.

  • Record and clean in one go. Record with the phone microphone, watch the input level, and the recording is cleaned when you stop.

  • A clean copy, the original untouched. Videos keep their picture exactly as it was; only the sound is replaced.

How it works
  1. Pick a file. A video, an audio file, or a new recording.
  2. Listen and set. Compare 10 seconds before and after, and move the strength until it sounds right.
  3. Clean & save. Stillwren saves a new copy to your phone. Share it or open it from there.
Is Stillwren free?

Yes. Files up to 5 minutes are free, as many as you like, with no watermark. The preview, strength control, Keep music, recording and MP4 or M4A saving are free. For a longer file you can clean the first 5 minutes for free. Pro adds files of any length, cleaning several files at once, loudness to -14 LUFS, WAV output, voice boost and no ads.

Is my audio uploaded?

No. Noise reduction runs on your phone, so it also works without internet. Your videos, audio and recordings are never uploaded, sent to us or passed to the ad SDK.

What noise does it remove?

Steady background noise around speech: wind, fans, traffic and room hum. It is tuned for voices. If your video has a soundtrack, turn on Keep music so the strength is lowered and more of the music stays.

Does my video lose quality?

The picture is copied as it is, without re-encoding. Only the sound is replaced, saved as AAC at 128, 192 or 256 kbps. Your original file is not changed.

Where are my files saved?

Clean videos go to Movies/Stillwren and clean audio to Music/Stillwren, so your gallery and music apps find them.

Privacy at a glance
Videos and audio files
Videos are chosen with the Android photo picker and audio files with the Android file picker, or shared to Stillwren from another app, so the app cannot see the rest of your files. Their sound is decoded and cleaned on your phone; working files are kept in the app's private storage while it cleans. Nothing is uploaded, sent to us or passed to the ad SDK.
Recordings
The microphone is used only on the Record screen, after you tap Record. The recording is kept in the app's private storage so you can compare it with the clean version, and is deleted automatically after 7 days. Discard deletes it right away.
Clean files
Created only when you tap Clean & save. Videos go to Movies/Stillwren and audio to Music/Stillwren on your phone. Where you share them next is up to you.
Recent list and settings
File names, lengths and small waveforms of your clean files, and your settings, are saved on your phone. If you use Android backup, Android may include them in your Google account backup.
Trial reminder
If you start a free trial, one reminder 2 days before it ends is scheduled on your phone by Android. Nothing about it leaves your phone.
Purchases
Handled by Google Play; we never see your payment details.

Permissions: Microphone, asked only when you tap Record. Notifications, asked before the first file longer than a minute is cleaned (to show progress and tell you when it is ready) and when you start a free trial (one reminder 2 days before it ends). Foreground service (data sync), so a long file keeps cleaning when you switch apps. Start at boot, so the trial reminder is set again after a restart. No camera, location, contacts, photos and media, storage or exact alarm permission; files are chosen with the Android photo and file pickers. Google's ad, purchase and notification libraries add the advertising ID, network state, wake lock, vibration and billing permissions. Internet is used for ads, purchases, crash reports and the settings file described above, never for cleaning.
